The Painting of Auspicious Spring, Qing Dynasty. Mian Yi. Ink and color on rice paper.

An elegant composition is presented with roses, plum blossoms, pine, and bamboo arranged in a delicately small-mouthed, tube-shaped celadon vase. Adjacent to this arrangement, one finds narcissus, lilies, jade chimes, persimmons, and a ruyi scepter, each element carefully chosen to embody a message of peace, auspicious fortune, and the fulfillment of all desires.

About the Artist:

Mian Yi (1764-1815), a grandson of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty.
